Otai Burger

Posted in ravings by rkaru on the February 12th, 2008

When I raved about the qualities of Otai Burger over Ramly Burger in a local forum, some regulars asked for the locations of the Otai Burger stalls for they wanted to try it out. It took me some time (Hey… I’m shuffling on by…) but here it is…

hailam

3 posts in a space of less than 24 hours! If I keep this up, I might as well as change my site title to Blazing On By. Anyway…

Being a DIWK family (that’s Double Income With Kids), we rarely have time for homecooked food. Let me rephrase that, Na rarely has the time to cook for us. It takes her about an hour to commute to and from her workplace in Bangi. In the fasting month it is worse. With almost everyone rushing off straight after work to get home in time for berbuka, her normal commute time is even more lenghtened.

So yesterday being an off-day for her, we had homecooked meal for breaking of fast. Yayy! It’s a no-big-deal meal, nothing fancy and fussy, but satisfying nonetheless. She made her specialty Mee/Kway Tiau Hailam (how do you spell that word anyway? Kway Tiau? Kueh Tiau? Kueh Teow?).

First we have the mee kuning, saute’ed with a bit of kicap manis and garlic. (Please excuse the half-gone condition of the noodles. I was already on my second helping when it occured to me to make a post on this and took out my camera-phone.)

The kway tiau, also saute’ed like the mee kuning. You can have a choice of just the mee kuning or kway tiau, or both. I prefer the mee kuning but at times I mix them up.

Then the gravy. Prawns, squids, chicken, ginger, cauliflower and brocolli. Na knows how I like the brocolli done; lightly. Still fresh green and crispy.

Oh, don’t forget the bawang goreng, sprinkled generously over the dish.

And we have teh best mee/kway tiau hailam in the world. The bowl’s only half full because that’s my second helping.

We had fun.

kimi in hungaroring

Posted in ravings by rkaru on the August 1st, 2005

yesss! kimi wins it! i’d say it’s due to the brilliant pit strategy. kimi was tailing schuey all the way from the launch, having jumped from 4th in pole. i was not sure when and how he got past montoya who was second behind schuey after the launch, the cameras having had focussed so much on the smash-up at the start.

hungaroring was notorious for being a bitch at overtaking, so kimi had kept on schumaker’s tail for much of the race, sometimes less that 0.5 seconds apart. then kimi pitted, followed by schumaker a few laps later. kimi was still smelling schumaker’s ass. kimi’s car was obviously faster than michael’s ferrari but the track was just too risky for overtaking. then came the second round of pitstops. surprisingly, it was michael who pitted first this time. everybody thought mclaren would take advantage of this by having kimi go laps as fast as possible to gain enough advantage for his inevitable 2nd pitstop. but he pitted just one lap later. was the lead enough for him to leapfrog in front of michael when he emerged from the pitlane? my fists were clenched so tight my knuckles must have turned white. as the camera zoomed away to show kimi emerging from the pitlane, we can see the red ferrari looming on the track. it was as if it’s a race to the finishing line itself. i was screaming for kimi. adam was screaming for michael. t’ra was screaming at us to stop screaming.

kimi just managed to slide in front of michael and from that moment on there was no looking back for him. in the end he managed to build close to 30 seconds lead over michael. that’s how fast the mclaren mp4-20 was.

and adam knew it. after that 2nd pitstop drama he got up and went into his room. i asked him later what he did, he said he played f1 2005 on his ps2 and michael schumaker won.
